STOP HITTING YOUR IRON SHOTS FAT

Lesson Breakdown: How to Stop Fatting Your IronShots

Lesson 1

Understanding Fat Shots:

Fat shots occur when the club hits the ground before the ball.

This happens when the centre of mass (middle of the chest) moves behind the ball during the swing, just like in this picture.

Lesson 2

Set Up with Alignment Stick:

In your mind, imagine an alignment stick in the ground aligned with the middle of your chest.

This indicates where your center of mass should be.

Lesson 3

Identifying the Problem:

Moving the centre of mass behind the ball causes the low point of the swing to move back, leading to fat shots.

The goal is to have the low point after the ball, creating a divot post-impact.

Lesson 4

Correcting the Centre of Mass:

Ensure your chest moves past the ball line during the swing.

Rotate your body and move laterally towards the ball.

Lesson 5

The Drill Setup

Use an eight iron and place the ball position way forward, near your left toe (for right-handed golfers).

This exaggerated position helps train your body to move the centre of mass forward.

Lesson 6

Executing the Drill:

Use an eight iron and place the ball position way forward, near your left toe (for right-handed golfers).

This exaggerated position helps train your body to move the centre of mass forward.

Lesson 7

Initial Practice:

Hit a few shots with the ball in the forward position.

Feel the exaggerated movement of your body chasing after the ball.

Lesson 8

Avoiding Common Mistakes:

Do not move the ball position too far back.

Moving the ball back leads to a backward tilt and fat shots.

You want to see the divot after the ball, not before.

Lesson 9

Transition to Normal Ball Position:

Once you get used to the forward position, move the ball back to the centre of your stance.

Try to replicate the body movements learned from the drill.

Lesson 10

Continued Practice:

Keep practicing these movements to improve your iron shots.

Use the alignment stick and forward ball position drill regularly to maintain proper technique.
