HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR DRIVING

Lesson Breakdown: How To Improve Your Driving

Lesson 1

How to Sit the Driver

A crucial aspect often overlooked is how the driver sits.

Ensure the shaft sits at the correct angle. Avoid positioning the bottom of the driver completely flat, as this makes the shaft too upright and pushes your hands up.

This misalignment points the loft to the right, causing the ball to veer that way.

Instead, sit the driver flatter, ensuring the heel side of the bottom sits flush on the ground. This keeps the face straight at impact.

Lesson 2

Width of Stance

The width of your stance is vital. Place your feet just past shoulder width.

This wide stance is necessary for stability,
given that the driver is the longest club in your bag and requires a faster swing.

A narrow stance can lead to loss of balance, resulting in inconsistent
strikes.

Lesson 3

Ball Position

Proper ball position is essential. Position the ball forward in your stance, just inside your left foot (for right-handed golfers).

A good routine: start with your feet together and the ball centered, then step your left foot two inches out and your right foot outside shoulder width.

This ensures perfect ball position every time.

Lesson 4

Shoulder Tilt

Ensure an element of shoulder tilt with your driver. Your lead shoulder should be higher than your trail shoulder.

An easy way to achieve this: place your trail hand along your trail leg and slide it down two inches.

Hold this shoulder position and re-grip the club. This tilt is crucial for the next tip.

Lesson 5

Angle of Attack

The angle of attack is critical. Many golfers have a downward attack angle with their driver, like a plane landing.

Instead, aim for an upward attack angle, like a plane taking off. This change affects the club path, spin, and strike.

Implementing the setup changes from the first four tips will help achieve this.
